🚴‍♀️From Research to Road: Cycling to GreenTech as a Team🚴‍♂️

Three Organisations, Two Wheels, One Mission: GreenTech or Bust

There’s something special (read: totally mad) about arriving at a major international expo not by plane, train or taxi — but by bike.

Next week, InnoPhyte Consulting will do just that as we cycle from London to Amsterdam to attend GreenTech 2025. Why? Well, partly because it sounded like a great idea at the time and somehow became real… but mostly because it’s a brilliant way to arrive at one of the most exciting global agri/horti-tech calendar events.

With our bags packed, bikes ready and not nearly enough training, there’s no turning back.

A Bit of Backstory

For one of us, this isn’t the first time — Jim successfully cycled solo to GreenTech last year. This year, we’re teaming up with LettUs Grow who have also biked to Greentech in the past. We continue their tradition, just with a little more InnoPhyte energy in the mix.

Jim in 2024 ready for his ride to Amsterdam, flying (or pedalling should we say) solo.

“As a lifelong cycling fan, I couldn’t resist the idea of doing it again — this time with a team, which makes it even more fun (and a little more forgiving on the coffee breaks… hopefully).”

“I’ll be honest — my usual rides involve a quick loop around the block or popping to the shops. When I said “yes” to this challenge, I definitely wasn’t thinking about how far Amsterdam is. But here we are, a few days before GreenTech, hoping sore legs equal great stories!

Teamwork Makes the Tarmac Work

This time, Jim isn’t going it alone: it’s a full team effort. We’re proud to be riding with InnoPhyte partners Flex Farming and Niab under the banner of the IUK-funded Nitrogen Demand project (which explores low nitrogen growing strategies for out-of-season strawberry production in CEA/TCEA). Joining Jim is FlexFarming’s Ahmad Mohseni who will be fresh off running a marathon (because cycling 250km wasn’t quite hardcore enough on its own apparently), and with Katia also wearing her Niab hat, you could say the whole project is on the move.  Basically, if you’re involved in the project — you’re pedalling.

We’re definitely not a pro cycling team, but we are big believers in doing things differently and the ride is a reflection of the project’s spirit: bringing together innovation, sustainability, and good old-fashioned human collaboration. Pedal-powered progress, anyone?

Destination: GreenTech 2025

We’re riding toward GreenTech 2025, where we’ll be part of the UK Agritech Mission, thanks to the support of the British Embassy The Hague, the Department for Business and Trade, and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

It’s a brilliant opportunity to showcase the strength of UK agritech innovation — with a wealth of companies (shown below) demonstrating what we have to offer. And it’s not just about booths and badges: the mission includes expert panels, networking sessions, and visits to cutting-edge CEA tech hubs in the Netherlands.

We’re proud to be pedalling on behalf of InnoPhyte and the N-demand model  project, and proud to represent the UK sector that’s rethinking how we grow food in a changing world.

Final Thoughts as We Prepare for the Road

We’re expecting headwinds, sore legs, and maybe a few dodgy energy bars. But we’re also expecting laughs, big ideas, and a pretty epic arrival in Amsterdam.

So if you’re heading to GreenTech 2025, come and find us to say hi. Look for the slightly weary trio, rolling in on two wheels or limping, you’ll know exactly who we are. 😄

See you in Amsterdam!

Katia & Jim
